NEW MATERIAL!
Polish Mafia has several new songs they are working on. At a recent practice, I heard "Sleeping in the Wet Spot", "Where Were You", and "Blue Van Acid Soda Party". They all sounded good. John and Scott think that it is some of the best material they have come up with yet! Fans will definitely hear one, or possibly two of these new songs at Mafia's next concert on Nov. 20. Rumor has it that Polish Mafia may be getting some outside help in writing some new material. Nobody in the band has said anything yet, but apparently Scott is working with Audrey Daul on some new songs, including "Sweet Ride". Look for it possibly, in the future.
THANKSGIVING GIG?
Rumor has it, that Polish Mafia may be putting on a gig over Thanksgiving vacation. It will probably be a local gig in Kewaunee, WI. It is also rumored that the gig could be the anticipated debut of another local band. The band of Phil Dowd, Matt Hlinak, and Aaron Zuege is still unnamed, but is described below.
NEW KEWAUNEE BAND?
There is a new band, also from Kewaunee, that is starting to cause interest in the area. The band, as yet unnamed (Mystery Machines, Mr. Marbles, and Ninja Pac-Man were among other names suggested), includes Phil Dowd on drums, Matt Hlinak on bass, and Aaron Zuege
on guitar. The band has not played any gigs yet, but plans are in the works.
The band has written over nine original songs already! They also do a cover of "The Brews" by NOFX (one of my favorite bands), occasionally
with the members of Polish Mafia on vocals.
I have received a demo tape with instrumentals of several of their songs and attended a recent practice, and I think the band is coming along great. They had been keeping a rigorous practice schedule over the
summer and made a lot of progress. A variety of problems had kept them from practicing in the last month, but they are back on schedule. It would not be too far off to say that
they could be ready to play Concert Cafe in the next several months. It
is more likely that they will debut in Kewaunee, possibly opening for Mafia! A Thanksgiving gig has been rumored. It is also rumored that band will debut NOT in their hometown, but will play their first gig at a venue in a different part of the state. Until then, the
band is still working out a few kinks, including finding a singer. Matt
and Aaron are both capable of singing, but rumors about bringing in another
member have been flying. The name that has recently been thrown around is Marshall Welsh, also from Kewaunee. He not only can sing, but can play guitar and perhaps drums, if needed. Look here for more updates!
